WeddingsSt Peter’s is a wonderful venue to have your marriage service. It is of course a beautiful church, but more importantly holding the ceremony in church means seeking God’s blessing for your relationship. It also means that you will be held in the prayers of the local Christian community.

Getting married at St Peter’s
If you live in the parish of Limpsfield you are entitled to get married at St Peter’s. However, that doesn’t restrict anyone else getting married here providing you have a qualifying connection with the parish (for example, you used to live or worship here, your parents live or worship here, your parents or grandparents were married here, or you have regularly attended worship here for at least six months). To find out more about qualifying connections, click here.
If you wish to consider getting married at St Peter’s, the best thing to do is to come along to a service on a Sunday to see the church and introduce yourself to Rev Helen, the Rector.
How to arrange
After you have made your enquiry, the Rector will then usually give you a call or arrange a meeting to discuss your wedding. This is a good opportunity to get to know you and also discuss any considerations she may need to know that will require a slightly different process. For example if either of you have been married before (marriage in church after divorce is possible, but needs to be carefully considered with the Rector), or if one of you does not hold a UK passport, in which case you will almost certainly need to be married by “common licence” instead of banns. The Rector will discuss all of this with you.
Once a date has been set, you will be sent a wedding pack with a booklet on how to help plan your church wedding and a banns application form. Once we receive this, we can get working on booking in whatever services you require on the day, for example the flower arrangers, organist, bell ringers or choir.
Banns
Before you get married, it is a legal requirement for ‘Banns’ to be read out on three consecutive Sundays during the three months prior to your wedding. If you live outside the parish, you will need to have your Banns read at your local Parish Church, as well as at St Peter’s. To find your local parish church, click here.
Rehearsal
There will usually be a wedding rehearsal the day before your wedding with yourselves, the Rector (or whoever is leading your ceremony), and your bridal party.
We know that if you haven’t been married in church before how much there is to consider and take in, so if you have any questions leading up to your special day, please contact our Parish Administrator who will be happy to assist.

Marriage Blessings
For married couples who wish to give thanks for their marriage and to seek God’s blessing, there is the opportunity to have a special ceremony with their family and friends in church.
This may be for a couple who were originally married some time ago in a civil ceremony at a Registrar’s Office and who have now decided to bring their marriage under God and to renew their vows according to the church’s understanding of marriage. Alternatively, it may be for a couple married some years ago in church and who have reached a special anniversary or a significant moment in their relationship.
Please contact our Parish Administrator if you would like to discuss: [email protected] / 01883 712512.
